Sima Castro and Ramiro Castillo-Carrasco — were in the back of a car.
At least 15 shots were fired and one was struck by a bullet in the back of the man’s head just outside the front door of the car, Perez said.
“It was a pretty horrible situation,” Castro, 23, told The New York Times.
The trio was then arrested after crashing in an alley in the neighborhood.
A woman in the car was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and the passenger was taken with “minor” injuries to Jackson Memorial Hospital, Perez said.
The shooting had nothing to do with gang activity, police said.
“It is not believed to be a targeted situation,” Perez said.
“Just the fact that any firearm was involved is extremely bad for the neighborhood. It has to be addressed as aggressively as possible because it’s a very bad situation. It’s an unfortunate situation.”
Neighbor Patricia Hernandez told KNX 1070 AM’s Ron Brown, she heard about eight to 10 gunshots. Two weeks ago, someone was shot in the back on the block where the shooting now occurred.
“It was very loud,” she said. “There were a couple of times the shots kept getting closer.”
The car left the scene at 4 p.m., police said. Anyone with information about the shooting is allowed to call police.
This is a developing story. Stay with KNX 1070 for the latest.
